Educationists & NEET experts demand cancellation of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET-UG 2020 Exam). Read this blog to know - Whether NEET 2020 will be cancelled or not? What is NTA's stand on the conduction of NEET 2020 Exam?
by Sunil Nain - June 16, 2020
Due to COVID - 19, the year 2020 is turning into a bizarre day by day with the pandemic getting its hold more and more firm on our lives. Affecting every aspect of life, be it social, political or economical. When the whole world is in its grasp, students are also not unswayed from coronavirus crisis. From postponement of exams to education coming to a halt, they have been through a lot. Major All India Exams are at a pause because of the current situation.
After analyzing all possibilities of hike in the pandemic and by taking all precautionary measures, the government decided to start conducting the exams. In the wake of this decision, after postponement, NEET 2020 exam is scheduled to be conducted on 26th July 2020.
But in a recent update considering the present scenario, Educationalists like Dr R Murali, Tamil Nadu secretary, Save Higher Education Movement & V Jayendran Mani, president, Tirunelveli matriculation schools’ association & others are demanding cancellation of JEE and NEET 2020 Exam slamming the thought of “Health over Exam”. They demand that any such exam which involves lakhs of students should not be conducted at least for a year. Even a minor mistake in such a critical time can cause major damage to the nation.
The suggestions were given by NEET Experts & Educationists: -
NEET-UG is a common entrance exam to grant admission in all Undergraduate courses to students in various medical colleges across India. So, those making the demand to cancel the NEET 2020 exam are well aware that mere demanding will not solve the purpose. So, they have suggested a way out to deal with this situation.
One possible solution proposed by them is to consider Board Exam Results as a criterion for granting admission in MBBS Colleges this year. According to them, students take their board exams with equal sincerity and dedication. These board exam marks are anyway used by many colleges for granting admission in various courses of science, commerce and humanities. So, why can’t medical colleges use class 12th board score for admission in different courses?
They also suggested for the normalization of board exam score while creating the rank list for granting admission in NEET-UG MBBS Colleges. Further, there were also calls for more priority to be given to the local student for admission in medical colleges this year.
NTA stand on exam conduction so far: -
According to the last update from the National Testing Agency regarding the exam, NEET 2020 Exam will be conducted on 26th July 2020. It is pretty much clear the NTA and MHRD have not considered any such demand yet. Any such update will be provided to students beforehand on the official website of NTA.
Sunil Nain Sir's Analysis: -
Educationists, especially from South India, are demanding for board exam score to be considered as a criterion for admission in MBBS colleges. But according to me, it is not so easy to do normalization and prepare a rank list based on board exam marks as there are so many boards in the country. All Boards follow their curriculum & marking scheme. But National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is a nationwide exam & based on One Nation, One Exam concept to maintain equality among all medical aspirants. So, there are very fewer chances that NTA & MHRD will consider their demand. There is a high probability that the NEET 2020 exam would be conducted on 26th July 2020.
